Key Responsibilities 1. Pre-Entry Safety * Conduct atmospheric testing (O₂, H₂S, CO, LEL) using gas detectors (e.g., Crowcon/GMI). * Verify entry permits, risk assessments, and rescue plans. * Set up tripod/winch systems (LOLER-compliant) and communications. 2. Continuous Monitoring * Maintain constant visual/radio contact with entrants (e.g., via hard-wired comms). * Track entry time limits and personnel counts. * Monitor gas levels and environmental changes (e.g., flooding, temperature). 3. Emergency Response * Initiate non-entry rescue using retrieval equipment if entrant fails to respond. * Summon emergency services/rescue team (never enter alone!). * Administer emergency first aid (e.g., CPR, burns) post-rescue. 4. Documentation * Log entry/exit times, gas readings, and equipment checks. * Report near-misses or hazards to the Site Controller
