Outreach Learning Mentor - Therapeutic Support for Young People
Location: Barking and Dagenham
Full Time | Monday to Friday: 8:30am - 4:30pm

Ready for a unique and rewarding challenge?

Are you experienced in mentoring within a school or educational setting and looking for an exciting new role? We are partnering with an inspiring, therapeutic organisation operating across London, dedicated to supporting some of the most vulnerable, high-risk, and hardest-to-reach young people - all under a strict no-exclusion policy.

In this role, you will support young people who have been out of formal education for extended periods and are not yet ready for a traditional classroom environment. You will play a key part in their induction, assessment, and transition over a two-term period, providing stability, guidance, and therapeutic support.

Many of the young people you will work with have SEMH or ASC diagnoses, along with complex additional needs. Some have experienced trauma, exploitation, or violence and require a mentor who can build trust, offer understanding, and provide a structured therapeutic approach.

Making a Difference

This organisation has a proven record of success. Young people often go on to re-enter education or employment, develop emotional regulation skills, and begin processing their experiences.

Example of impact:
A young person with low attendance, multiple exclusions, PTSD, and aggressive behaviour was paired with a specialist mentor. Through consistent support and therapeutic intervention, they transitioned to a specialist school, achieved a 93% attendance rate, and are thriving on a bespoke curriculum tailored to their needs.

You could be the mentor who changes a young person's life in this way.

Role Responsibilities:
* Develop holistic learning plans to support young people's return to education
* Work outside a traditional classroom to provide therapeutic, individualised support
* Support young people from disengagement to achievement and personal growth
What's on Offer:
* Lunch and travel expenses reimbursed during working hours
* Full-time hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm
* Opportunities to travel across London to support multiple students
What We're Looking For:
* Confidence in managing dysregulated behaviour and understanding its causes
* A trauma-informed, therapeutic approach with a passion for supporting young people
* Empathy, resilience, and commitment to achieving positive outcomes for vulnerable youth
If this is the opportunity you've been waiting for, we want to hear from you.
