An opportunity has arisen within Laboratory Medicine for a full-time position as Specimen Reception site manager based in Princess of Wales Hospital. The successful candidate will oversee the smooth running of specimen reception within the site, including some aspects of phlebotomy
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our skilled and dedicated laboratory medicine team. Ideally, you will have a science degree, a science Higher National Diploma, or degree appropriate to the post.
The post holder will supervise a team of biomedical support workers (BMSW) who collect, prepare patient samples received in the laboratory medicine department for analysis. These duties will include entering patient and associated testing details into the Laboratory Medicine computer system. The post holder will also prepare rosters in conjunction with section managers and other supervisory duties under the direction of the receptions manager.
The post holder will maintain personal development and competency to meet the changing demands of the job and participate in appropriate training activities and assist support staff development and training

Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential criteria
1. IBMS accredited BSc in Biomedical Science or Degree appropriate to the post
2. Evidence of ongoing participation in CPD Background knowledge of other Pathology disciplines, e.g., Haematology, Biochemistry knowledge of hospital specialties
3. Understanding the purpose and practice of the main specialties within pathology.
Desirable criteria
4. Membership of The Institute of Biomedical Science
5. Registration with Health Professionals Council (HCPC)
6. Management Qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
7. Experience in a UKAS accredited training pathology laboratory.
Desirable criteria
8. Experience in a Laboratory Medicine laboratory.
