Southern Housing is seeking a Cook to join our Care and Independent Living team based in Ryde Village on the Isle of Wight.
You will provide a food preparation service to residents and ensure all food hygiene regulations are adhered to. You should have experience in providing nutritionally well-balanced and appetising meals and hold a Food Hygiene Certificate. Regular consultation with residents is expected to ensure that the food served meets their preferences and dietary requirements.
Please note, this is a part-time role - 15 hours per week.
The location
You will be based at Ryde Village on the Isle of Wight. The role is part-time, 15 hours per week. You may be required to attend training courses at other offices or schemes. An Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check is required.
What you'll be doing
Menus
* Ensure all meals are nutritionally balanced, appetising, and provided within budget
* Consult with residents to meet their food preferences
* Be aware of and act on any dietary requirements
Purchasing
* Maintain stock control and records of purchases
* Ensure sufficient ingredients are available for all meals and refreshments, and that all goods are of sound quality
Food hygiene and health and safety rules
* Carry out risk assessments of kitchen procedures and identify hazards
* Devise methods to minimise risks and ensure staff are aware of these methods
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen
* Ensure staff adhere to hygiene and safety practices, including wearing protective clothing
What you'll need
* Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate
* Experience in cooking, food preparation within a budget, and stock control
* Understanding of dietary requirements of older people
* Basic written and numeracy skills
* Basic health & safety awareness
* Experience managing a professional kitchen environment
