Walsall Academy
We are seeking an outgoing, positive and passionate Learning Mentor to provide social, emotional and mental health support to students. The successful candidate will need to hold a mentoring qualification and have experience of supporting students within this role. A knowledge of support strategies and mentoring programmes is vital, and the successful candidate needs an understanding of the importance of developing positive relationships in school. As a Learning Mentor you will be expected to have a caseload of students whom you will support and be able to evaluate the impact of the support, adapting practice as appropriate. You will need to be able to work flexibly and creatively in a variety of ways to support students to overcome their barriers to learning. It is essential that the successful candidate has good literacy and numeracy skills and excellent organisational skills being able to work both independently and as part of a wider team.

Responsibilities
* Provide learning support to students as directed by the Deputy Head responsible for Social and Education Inclusion, raise attainment, aspirations, attendance and achievement and work towards school targets, including through supporting students accessing the school’s Nurture Room.
* Identify and help overcome barriers to individual learning both within and outside school.
* Develop social skills and emotional development through the development of strategies and mentoring programmes.
* Provide one-to-one mentoring sessions for identified students, setting appropriate targets and evaluating practice and progress.
* Oversee and manage casework for the team in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, evaluating progress and reporting to the Deputy Head.
* Share best practice with the team through mentoring skills.
* Liaise with outside agencies, where appropriate.
* Arrange mediation of work between school, home, students, and other agencies including school nurse, social services, education welfare officer, etc.
* Undertake home visits where necessary.
* Run intervention strategies for individuals or groups of students.
* Attend relevant training and events.
* Maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour and uphold the Nolan Principles.
* Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and ensure adherence to the Academy’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, along with e-Safety Policies.
* Adhere to the Code of Conduct provided annually and comply with the Data Protection Act to protect data confidentiality.
* Adhere to the Academy’s Health and Safety Policy.
