Job Summary
Join the Emergency Division management team as a Capacity Site Manager. The role involves proactive management and leadership to ensure timely placement of patients requiring acute or elective admission, maintaining accurate bed capacity and demand overviews, and providing site management reports to meet local and government targets.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead capacity and demand patterns, keeping patient experience central to decision making.
* Manage bed and clinical site operations 24/7, monitoring staffing levels and reallocating staff to meet clinical skill needs.
* Work proactively under pressure, maintaining professionalism and strong communication skills to support operational resilience.
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of patient placement and flow through close liaison with multidisciplinary teams.
* Provide senior support for decisions on placement of patients requiring emergency and elective admission, adhering to infection control policy.
* Repatriate patients from other trusts back to their local authority where appropriate.
* Deliver accurate information at operational bed meetings, ensuring clear electronic data capture of demand and capacity.
* Lead establishment of systems to ensure consistency with DoH SITREP reporting and monitor compliance.
* Support quality and improvement initiatives on flow and discharge through the hospital.
* Escalate obstructions in patient flow and discharges per Trust policy and agree actions with stakeholders.
* Ensure patients are placed timely, map to specialist wards when capacity available to minimise length of stay, and support safe opening of escalation areas.
* Support admission avoidance strategies, identify patients for Same Day Emergency Care and oversee patient movement from ED to assessment areas to achieve 4‑hour access targets.
* Foster creativity and efficient patient flow pathways in collaboration with ward teams.
* Maintain effective communication with staff, patients, relatives and external partners, fostering an open and proactive environment.
* Document essential information in line with Trust and NMC guidelines.
* Participate in conferences, departmental and external meetings, leading where appropriate.
* Plan and prioritise workload, monitor progress, provide constructive feedback and adjust plans to cover emergencies.
* Manage budgets, resource use records, and recommend corrective action where needed.
* Lead investigations into serious incidents, ensuring learning is reflected in practice.
* Lead policies and procedures in own area, evaluate changes and conduct audit/benchmarking.
* Recruit, select and induct staff for capacity and discharge teams.
* Lead line management responsibility for Clinical Site Team, Discharge Liaison Team and Enhanced Care Team.
* Respond to complaints and implement remedial action as per Trust policy.
* Maintain professional development and active membership of cardiac arrest team.
* Undertake advanced clinical skills and extended roles as per NMC and Trust guidelines.
* Handle senior decision making and support clinical skill needs on wards.
* Prepare for major incident standby or declaration.
