SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary School
Location: Bolton
Position: Full-time, long-term
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
School may consider a 3:00pm finish with an early finish on Fridays
We are working with a specialist SEMH secondary school in Bolton who are seeking an experienced and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis.
The school supports pupils with EHCPs, with SEMH as the primary need, alongside additional needs such as ASC. The setting benefits from a strong staffing structure, with a ratio of 8 students to 3 adults, allowing for high-quality, individualised support.
The Role
* Providing in-class support and out-of-class interventions
* Supporting pupils during unstructured times and transitions
* Identifying early signs of dysregulation and stepping in to prevent crisis
* Supporting students who present with challenging and occasionally physical behaviours
* Building strong, consistent relationships to promote emotional regulation and engagement
Requirements
* Relevant experience working with young people with SEMH needs (essential)
* Experience in an SEMH school, PRU, AP, or SEMH residential setting (preferred)
* A strong, resilient personality with a calm and proactive approach
* Excellent verbal communication skills
* Ability to remain professional under pressure and work as part of a team
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential)
* Ability to commit to full-time hours - the school will not consider candidates unable to do this
