You will lead the design and implementation of the Force’s data architecture, ensuring it enables the effective use of data for intelligence, research, investigations, and informed decision-making. Your work will support operational and strategic priorities across the Force, contributing to crime prevention, public protection, and service improvement. As a key advisor on data strategy, you will champion best practices in data architecture, guide major data initiatives, and translate complex technical concepts into clear value for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Key duties: Act as the Force’s subject matter expert on data architecture, representing its interests and advising internal teams and partner organisations. Design, implement, and manage the Force’s overall data architecture, ensuring secure, scalable, and efficient data storage and access. Lead the selection and adoption of modern data tools, technologies, and frameworks to support advanced analytics and data-driven decision-making. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to teams across data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence. Collaborate with digital and data leaders to enhance team capabilities and actively contribute to regional and national data strategies. Key requirements: Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field. or a combination of education and relevant experience Query languages e.g. SQL, Java, Hive, R Data Management technologies e.g. ETL tools, data integration platforms Data visualisation tools e.g. PowerBI, Qlik In-depth knowledge of modern data practices, including the technologies used, platforms and services, and the interface with cloud technologies, as well as data modelling techniques. Strong knowledge of data security, data privacy, and regulatory compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and their implications for data architecture Proven experience as a Data Architect, Data Engineer (or a related role, with a strong emphasis on data architecture design and implementation) employing modern data engineering tools and technologies Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms and services (e.g., Azure, AWS) including familiarity with cloud-based data storage, and big data technologies Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to translate complex requirements into practical, scalable solutions Able to connect disparate data sets together to build useful analytics Please quote the Job Title & Vacancy Reference No. in your application, or we will be unable to match your CV to the role being applied for.
