Location: AFBI Crossnacreevy
Hours: 30-35 hours
Pay Rate: £24,336
Job Overview
We are seeking an Field Trials Assistant to join the AFBI team. This is a valuable opportunity to support vital agricultural research within AFBI's Plant Variety Evaluation Programme at Crossnacreevy. The role involves a mix of field and laboratory duties, working primarily with grass and clover crops. The post holder will assist scientific staff with trial management, data collection, and laboratory processes to support high-quality research outputs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assist scientific staff with field trials, including measurement and collection of agronomic data
2. Perform manual fieldwork in all weather conditions
3. Input and manage data with accuracy and consistency
4. Follow laboratory protocols and procedures (training provided as required)
5. Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment
6. Adhere to agreed timelines and ensure high-quality working practices
7. Carry out manual handling of plant material for sampling and analysis
8. Perform other duties as allocated by management in support of research activities
Note: The post requires sufficient physical fitness to work outdoors for extended periods, involving bending, stretching, walking, standing, and lifting plant material.
Requirements
9. Essential:Experience in fieldwork or practical outdoor rolesFamiliarity with data handling and entryExperience working as part of a teamFull driving licence
10. Desirable:Access to a personal vehicle for travel between work locationsUnderstanding of laboratory procedures and protocol-based work
Additional Information
11. On-the-job training will be provided based on experience and skill level
12. A probationary period of 1-2 weeks applies
