The Role:
The Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership (BVCP) is part of the Hampshire County Council Countryside Service Team. We work with the local community to manage green spaces around Hampshire, Surrey, and Berkshire, focusing on improving access and biodiversity across habitats such as river catchments, woodland, heathland, and wildflower meadows.
You will work both independently and as part of a team, carrying out practical conservation and maintenance tasks. Requirements include habitat management, minor construction work (e.g., footbridges, fencing), liaising with contractors, and supporting volunteer groups. The role involves site safety checks, species monitoring, contributing to social media, and assisting with management plans and budgets.
Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for dealing with visitors, partners, and volunteers. You should be able to work productively both independently and within a team, with awareness of health and safety policies and legislation.
A flexible approach is necessary, as you will work outdoors in all weather conditions, including some weekends and bank holidays. You must be able to undertake physical tasks and hold a current full drivers’ license to operate a Council vehicle.
