Back End Developer
Location: Croydon - 1 day on-site per week
Duration: 12 months

The Role
We're looking for an experienced Back End Developer to join a high-impact delivery team working on scalable, mission-critical systems. You'll be building and enhancing robust backend services, collaborating closely with product, DevOps, and QA to deliver reliable APIs and data-driven solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design, build, and maintain high-quality backend services and APIs
2. Develop scalable, resilient microservices using Java and Spring
3. Work with event-driven architectures using Kafka
4. Build and consume RESTful APIs
5. Write clean, testable code and support automated testing (including API mocking)
6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, performant solutions
7. Support troubleshooting, bug fixing, and performance optimisation
Must-Have Skills & Experience
8. Strong commercial experience with Java
9. Spring Framework, including Spring Boot and Spring Data
10. Experience with Kafka and event-driven systems
11. PostgreSQL database experience
12. OpenSearch / Elasticsearch
13. Node.js
14. Building and consuming REST APIs
15. WireMock or similar API mocking tools
16. Active SC Clearance
Nice-to-Have
17. Experience working in large, complex or regulated environments
18. Familiarity with cloud-based architectures
19. Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
20. Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams
