LGBTQIA+ Older Women's Engagement Officer
£25,119 plus 6% pension
35 per week, ability to work evenings and weekends is essential
32 days annual leave plus statutory days
Fixed term until September 2026, with the possibility of an extension subject to funding

The LGBTQIA+ Older Women's Engagement Officer will provide the opportunity for older LGBTQIA+ women to come together in various social settings for peer support, so they can learn from each other and to increase their overall social connections. There will be a range of online and face-to-face healthy social activities. This project will focus on a range of healthy social activities that will lead to increased health and wellbeing. One-to-one support will be provided, along with a telephone check-in for the most vulnerable. The work plan for this project will be designed for and by the women who participate in this project.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
* To facilitate a range of programmes that are based on the expressed needs of older LGBTQIA+ women.
* To build the capacity of older LGBTQIA+ women through providing access to relevant skills and personal development training.
* To improve Here NI's quality of engagement with LGBTQIA+ women, considering multiple discrimination.
* To recruit, support and encourage a wide range of individuals and organisations so they can become an instrumental part of this project.
* To assist in keeping records to ensure the project is meeting its monitoring and evaluation requirements.
* To work in a confidential and professional manner that ensures client welfare and safety is of paramount importance.
* To participate in meetings and supervision, and to access relevant training opportunities as appropriate.
* To coordinate all social media related to this project.
Job Activities
* To facilitate programmes which promote the health and well-being of older LGBTQIA+ women
* To facilitate the WOW (Wednesday Older Women) group
* To provide 1-1 support
* Provide a telephone check-in service
* To work with older LGBTQIA+ women to identify their needs and priorities, and todevelop and deliver agreed actions to address these needs
* To develop initiatives and events that are designed to develop the confidence,capacity and skills of the community
* To work in partnership with local communities and organisations to identify and secure sources of funding that will realise new projects and programmes
* To facilitate greater and more consistent dialogue, networking and shared learning between organisations, community groups and individuals on the needs of older LGBTQIA+ women
* To facilitate the provision of training and development programmes designed to further the aims and objectives of the project
* To undertake a consultation regarding the needs of older LGBTQIA+ women
* To facilitate group discussions and overcome barriers to communication
* To work in an integrated manner with other members of the HERe NI team
* To contribute to ongoing monitoring and evaluation of service provision in relation to meeting needs and achieving outcomes
* To maintain records and administration to HERe NI standards, including computerised records
* Any other duties as reasonably required by HERe NI
Essential Criteria
* Third-level educational qualification in a relevant subject and two years' experience as a paid member of staff working in a similar role in the areas of adult health and social care, community development or age sector OR 5 years' experience in a similar role within the past 10 years, specialising in the delivery of wellbeing services
* Experience of working on own initiative with limited ongoing supervision
* Excellent knowledge of social media and its uses
* Experience of supporting clients on a one-to-one basis
* Previous experience of delivering and developing workshops
* Previous successful experience of developing projects from the start
* Proven experience of facilitating and supporting groups
* Demonstrable ability to work sensitively and effectively with marginalised groups
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and build solid working relationships
* Be able to fulfil the travel arrangements associated with this post
* Ability to use ICT packages
* Experience and understanding of Safeguarding policies
Desirable Criteria
* Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
* Aptitude to work effectively under pressure and to handle changing priorities to keep within deadlines
* Awareness of issues relating to LGBTQIA+ women
General
HERe NI regards all posts within the organisation to carry a degree of flexibility in their execution of duties to assist the development of the organisation. All responsibilities associated with contracted personnel will be carried out in line with the aims and objectives of the organisation and policies set out by the Board of Trustees. Employees will be expected to be flexible in their approach to working hours, as evening and weekend work may be necessary.
