We’re thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a Psychology Graduate aspiring to become an Educational Psychologist to join secondary schools across Gateshead as a Learning Support Assistant.
This full-time position provides invaluable classroom experience supporting students with a range of additional needs, helping you develop key skills in learning, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing.

This role provides daily exposure to the practical side of educational psychology—ideal for graduates planning to apply for postgraduate training or an Educational Psychology Doctorate.
You’ll support students aged 11–18 with diverse needs including Autism, ADHD, Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.
You’ll gain valuable experience in:
Applying psychological and educational strategies such as emotional regulation and sensory integration.
Collaborating with SEND specialists, educational psychologists, and therapy teams.
Using restorative and trauma-informed approaches to foster positive learning experiences.
Building strong communication, observation, and reflective practice skills essential for psychology careers.

Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small-group academic and emotional support.
Help implement and review individual education and behaviour plans.
Support pupils with emotional regulation, engagement, and sensory needs (full training provided).
Build positive, trusting relationships with students and staff.
Accurately record and reflect on student progress and wellbeing.
We’re Looking For
A degree in Psychology or a related discipline (essential).
A genuine interest in educational, developmental, or child psychology.
Experience working with children or young people (desirable).
Empathy, patience, and excellent communication skills.
Commitment to supporting students across a full academic year.
