We are seeking an experienced Freelance Site Manager to oversee the delivery of civil engineering works across Environment Agency frameworks, with a strong focus on flood defence and structural projects. This is a hands‑on role requiring strong leadership, technical understanding, and the ability to drive programmes safely and efficiently on site.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage day-to-day site operations on flood defence and structural schemes (e.g. embankments, flood walls, culverts, pumping stations, reinforced concrete structures)
* Ensure full compliance with Environment Agency standards, specifications, and reporting requirements
* Lead and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and site personnel
* Maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance at all times
* Deliver works to programme, budget, and quality expectations
* Produce and review RAMS, ITPs, and site documentation
* Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and project teams, providing regular progress updates
* Conduct site inspections, toolbox talks, and audits
Requirements
* Proven experience as a Site Manager within civil engineering
* Strong background in Environment Agency frameworks and flood defence schemes
* Experience delivering structural works (RC structures, steelwork, hydraulic structures)
* SMSTS, CSCS (Black or Gold), and First Aid (essential)
* Temporary Works Coordinator/Supervisor (preferred)
* Excellent communication and organisational skills
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Desirable
* HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
* Experience with NEC contracts
* Knowledge of environmental best practices and sustainability in construction
