SGB2 - Field Trials Assistant
Location: Crossnacreevy
Hours: Full-time, 30-35 hours per week (various contracts available)
Pay Rate: £ per hour
About the Role
AFBI is seeking Field Trials Assistants to support its Plant Variety Evaluation Programmes at Crossnacreevy. These roles are a mix of field-based and laboratory-based duties, working primarily with grass, clover and/or cereal crops.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with outdoor fieldwork experience who are comfortable with manual tasks, data collection, and working as part of a scientific team. Full on-the-job training will be provided.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
1. Assisting scientific staff with field trials
2. Measuring, recording and collecting agronomic data
3. Carrying out manual fieldwork in all weather conditions
4. Data input and data management
5. Supporting laboratory work and following set protocols (advantageous)
6. Working to agreed deadlines
7. Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment
8. Ensuring high standards of quality and accuracy
The role requires a good level of physical fitness, including:
9. Prolonged outdoor work
10. Standing, walking, bending and stretching
11. Manual handling of plant materials for analysis

Essential Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
12. 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English
13. Previous fieldwork experience
14. Experience in data handling
15. Ability to work effectively as part of a team
16. Full UK driving licence (access to a personal vehicle is preferable due to travel between locations)
