About the role
Develop and deliver national professional practice guidance for the police service, leading on scope definition, evidence interpretation, stakeholder consultation, and publication of guidance documents.
Responsibilities
* Define scope of guidance to meet identified needs.
* Work with national stakeholders and subject matter experts to interpret evidence and draft practical, ethical guidance.
* Lead public and stakeholder consultation, including designing and delivering surveys, focus groups, and other instruments.
* Develop two to three main pieces of guidance each year and make small‑scale changes to existing products.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree or Level 6 qualification, or equivalent experience in policing, government, law, criminal justice or related fields.
* Effective and persuasive communication skills.
* Ability to gather data, analyse, critique and synthesise complex information and prepare reports and briefing documents.
* Ability to present and facilitate discussion on highly complex, sensitive and/or contentious information.
* Ability to think and plan strategically and exercise sound judgement in the face of conflicting pressures.
* Experience with strategic planning, policy development, and evidence‑based guidance is desirable.
Eligibility
* Open to existing employees of the College of Policing, the Civil Service, staff of a UK police force or other UK policing organisation.
* Nationality: UK nationals, Republic of Ireland nationals, Commonwealth nationals with right to work in the UK, EU/Switzerland/Norway/Iceland/Liechtenstein nationals and family members with settled or pre‑settled status, Turkish nationals with right to work in the Civil Service.
* Applicants must hold at least NPPV3 and SC vetting levels, or be able to obtain them during the recruitment.
* Applicants for secondment must obtain written approval of their line manager.
