Jordanhill School is Scotland's unique grant-aided primary and secondary school, receiving its funding directly from the Scottish Government. It is an autonomous institution run by a Board of Managers consisting of elected parents and members of staff and nominees. Located in the west end of Glasgow, Jordanhill School is committed to delivering excellence in all aspects of school life.
The school is spread across a mix of new build and older traditional buildings which have been modernised and re-furbished over the years. The refectory has a modern serving area and is fully and adequately equipped to meet the school's catering needs and provides a morning interval and lunch service for pupils and staff. The atrium café is a smaller grab and go secondary only service which supplements the service offered in the school’s refectory.
The school has a roll of pupils aged from 4 - 18. Currently, circa 1, pupils use the food service daily. The Scottish Government provides funding to deliver universal free school meals to all P1 to P5 children.
The Role
The successful candidate will be given scope to organise the catering service in the most appropriate way and will have the opportunity to develop his/her own ideas within the broad policies established by school. In particular, the catering manager will have detailed control and responsibility for best value purchasing, stock control, food quality, supplier relationships, team management and pupil service.
The catering manager will also be required to support the chef to cook food, create and design menus, and help manage the production and delivery of meals to provide Jordanhill School’s busy catering service.
This role involves ensuring compliance with legal and government regulations, policies, and procedures associated with current school food regulations – Food and Drink (Scotland) Regulations. To comply with these food regulations, menus and meals are analysed using food software (Nutmeg) and this forms part of the duties and the role of the catering manager.
As the role also involves the operation of cooking equipment, good physical health and fitness is paramount due to the nature of the physical demands of the job.
The catering manager leads the catering supervisor, chef, and a team of eight refectory assistants day to day. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be dynamic and have excellent people skills.
Working Hours
Working hours are 39 hours a week.
Monday to Thursday 7am – 3.30pm
Friday 7am – 2.30pm
Occasional variations to normal working hours will be required to accommodate school events in the evenings or at weekends.
Salary and Terms
The salary for this position is SCP 41, £34, per annum on a 52-week basis. The salary for this role on a term-time basis is £29,. The role is offered on either a term-time or 52-week basis and will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
