The role
Southern Housing is seeking a Cook to join our Care and Independent Living team based at Ryde Village on the Isle of Wight.
You will provide a food preparation service to residents and ensure all food hygiene regulations are adhered to. You should have experience in preparing nutritionally well-balanced and appetising meals and hold a Food Hygiene Certificate. You’ll be expected to consult regularly with residents to ensure that the food served meets their preferences and caters for any special dietary requirements.
Please note, this is a part-time role - 15 hours per week.
The location
You will be based at Ryde Village on the Isle of Wight. The role is part-time, 15 hours per week. You may be required to attend training courses at other offices or schemes. An Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check is required.
What you’ll be doing
Menus
* Ensure all meals are nutritionally balanced, appetising, and provided within budget constraints.
* Consult regularly with residents to meet their food preferences.
* Be aware of and act on any special dietary requirements.
Purchasing
* Maintain stock control and records of all purchases.
* Ensure sufficient ingredients are available for all meals and refreshments, and that all goods are of sound quality.
Food hygiene and health & safety
* Carry out risk assessments of kitchen procedures and identify hazards.
* Develop methods to minimise risks and ensure staff are aware of these methods.
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen, including appliances and utensils.
* Ensure staff follow best practices for personal hygiene, health & safety, and wear appropriate protective clothing.
What you’ll need
* Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate
* Experience in cooking, food preparation within a budget, portion, and stock control
* Understanding of dietary requirements for older people
* Basic written and numeracy skills
* Basic health & safety awareness
* Experience managing a professional kitchen environment
