Role: Learning Mentor
Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable Kingsway Campus
Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £24,720 and £29,870 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual (Pro-Rata) leave plus Bank holidays, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 18.5 hours per week, 40 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time
About The Role
We are currently seeking a Learning Mentor to join our Student Services department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Learning Mentor, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
* Student Mentoring & Support – Provide pastoral care and one-to-one mentoring for at-risk students, helping them overcome barriers and improve attendance, punctuality, and academic progress.
* Monitoring & Intervention – Track student data, implement timely interventions, and maintain accurate records to support student success and contribute to improved college outcomes.
* Collaboration & Communication – Work closely with teaching staff, external agencies, and families to ensure coordinated support, while contributing to a positive and inclusive college culture.
* College Engagement & Administration – Support induction, UCAS and job applications, open days, ID checks, and exams, while completing administrative tasks in line with GDPR and college policies.
* Safeguarding & Development – Uphold safeguarding, equality, and health and safety responsibilities, while actively engaging in professional development and promoting the College’s values.
About You
* Qualifications & Development – Holds Level 3 qualifications with GCSEs in English and Maths, supported by recent professional development in relevant areas.
* Experience & Knowledge – Strong understanding of Post-16 education, safeguarding, Prevent, and equality and diversity, with experience in school or college-based learning support
* Communication & Motivation – Builds rapport with young people, motivates them to succeed, and communicates effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
* Organisation & Adaptability – Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to prioritise, multitask, and adapt to fast-paced, changing environments.
* Professionalism & Integrity – Committed to safeguarding, continuous improvement, and maintaining professional boundaries, with flexibility to travel and adjust working hours as needed.
