Job Summary: The Quality Manager leads and manages the quality assurance and control processes for the design, manufacturing, and installation of substations across the UK. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and maintaining Quality Management Systems, conducting audits, managing non-conformances, and fostering a culture of quality within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage the Quality team.
2. Develop, implement, and maintain Quality Management Systems (QMS) for substation design and installation projects.
3. Ensure compliance with standards such as National Grid, IEC, BS EN, ISO 9001, and relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
4. Oversee quality assurance across all project phases: design, procurement, manufacturing, and installation.
5. Conduct inspections, audits, and risk assessments; identify quality issues and implement corrective actions.
6. Collaborate with engineering, project management, and site teams to meet quality standards.
7. Work with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain quality standards and resolve non-conformances.
8. Implement root cause analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and continuous improvement initiatives.
9. Lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and commissioning quality reviews.
10. Maintain documentation, reporting, and compliance records.
11. Provide training and mentorship on quality best practices.
12. Perform regular site visits across the UK.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Management, or related field.
2. At least 5 years of experience in quality management within the power, transmission, or substation industry.
3. Certification in Lead Auditor (ISO 9001) is desirable.
4. Full UK Driving Licence.
Skills:

Experience:
1. Familiarity with substation components such as switchgear, transformers, protection systems, and cabling.
2. Experience in auditing, managing non-conformances, and root cause analysis.
3. Minimum 5 years of line management experience in a similar role.
4. Experience working with Distribution Network Operators.
5. Experience with UVDB Achilles and National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS) accreditation.
6. Understanding of the Energy Network Association (ENA) and its role in the energy sector.
7. Experience with Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register (JOSCAR) is desirable.
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
