About the Role
We are looking for a caring, reliable, and enthusiastic Chef/Cook to join our residential care team supporting adults with learning disabilities.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys preparing nutritious meals, working as part of a supportive team, and making a positive difference to people’s daily lives. You will be delivering healthy, balanced, and appetising meals while helping to create a warm and welcoming dining experience for the people we support.
You will also play an important role in encouraging residents to get involved in cooking activities, helping to promote independence, confidence, and valuable life skills.
Key Responsibilities
1. Preparation and serving of meals and refreshments
2. Ensuring meals meet individual dietary, nutritional, and cultural requirements
3. Maintain excellent hygiene and cleanliness standards throughout the kitchen and food storage areas
4. Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment efficiently and safely
5. Support with stock rotation, checking deliveries, and safe food storage
6. Follow food safety regulations and HACCP procedures at all times
7. Assist with waste disposal and recycling practices within the kitchen
8. Encourage and support residents to participate in cooking and meal preparation activities
9. Work in line with organisational policies, health & safety procedures, and infection control standards
10. Contribute to creating a positive and welcoming mealtime environment
What We’re Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
11. Previous experience working within a kitchen, catering, or food preparation environment
12. Good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety standards
13. Ability to work effectively in a busy environment
14. Strong teamwork and communication skills
15. A positive, caring, and approachable attitude
16. Willingness to complete a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate if not already held
Desirable Skills & Experience
17. NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Catering, Food Preparation, or a related qualification
18. Experience working within a care, supported living, or residential setting
19. Understanding of dietary needs for individuals with learning disabilities
20. Experience supporting individuals to engage in cooking or life skills activities
