About the Role

The University of Manchester Library is seeking a Learning Developer (Digital Skills) to join the Teaching, Learning and Students (TLS) team. The role will support the Library’s teaching and learning services and strengthen our work in digital skills, academic skills and information literacy.

In this role, you will design and deliver teaching and learning materials that develop students’ academic and digital literacy skills, including guidance on the use of generative AI in learning. At interview, applicants will be expected to demonstrate their ability to teach, develop high‑quality teaching materials, and work as part of a collective within a collaborative culture, applying our inclusive and accessible teaching and learning principles.

You will

* Collaborate with colleagues across the Library and the TLS team – including librarians, learning developers, coordinators, and other subject matter experts – to create engaging teaching materials for on‑campus and online sessions that support the Library’s teaching and learning service.
* Work alongside colleagues and students from around the University to create teaching sessions and resources underpinned by strong pedagogical understanding that specifically support digital literacy, including approaches to engaging with Generative AI within learning.
* Support and encourage staff in the Library in applying their own understanding of pedagogy and student support to digital skills and literacy.
* The role is predominantly campus based but there will be opportunity to work from home one day a week.

About the Teaching, Learning and Students Team

The team is part of the Library’s student‑focused services and works alongside teams across the Library and wider University to deliver academic, information literacy and digital skills support, credit‑bearing teaching and other strategic student support activities.

Recruitment Process

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, whether you already work in higher education or come from sectors such as education, student support or community services.

If you require any reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process, please let us know.

Shortlist

As a first element of the shortlisting process, we will assess candidate’s applications against the person specification in the job description. To make the most effective use of your application, please clearly state what experience you have for each element of the person specification, doing your best to evidence all the essential knowledge, skills and experience.

Please include example(s) of your teaching experience and how you have developed teaching materials, especially in relation to ‘digital skills’ and outline the pedagogical practices which underpin your work. Use the additional information section of the job application to provide written evidence of how you meet the criteria in the person specification.

Interview

We will operate a two‑stage interview process. Initially, shortlisted candidates will be invited to a short in‑person or online interview so that the interview panel and candidate can ask further questions and add more detail to the application. Those asked to move on after this stage will have demonstrated how their own experience will support them in the role and will be invited to a more extensive on‑campus process that will provide an opportunity to demonstrate your teaching skills and work with members of Teaching, Learning and Students (including the Library Student Team) to design and/or outline an online learning resource.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

The University of Manchester values a diverse workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.

What you will get in return

* Fantastic market‑leading pension scheme.
* Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme.
* Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays.
* Additional paid closure over the Christmas period.
* Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers.

Other Requirements

* To work at any Library site as required.
* To carry out such other duties as may reasonably be associated with the grade and a role of this nature.
* To be flexible in relation to hours of work as may be reasonably requested from time to time.
