Overview

Part Time Cook – Leyland Court, Southend-on-Sea

Monday – Friday 9am to 2:30pm (27.5 hours per week)

Responsibilities

The role is to plan, prepare and cook a high-quality, nutritious lunchtime meal and dessert for the residents at Leyland Court, a sheltered service for 24 elderly residents in central Southend (free parking on site).

Develop relationships with residents, ensure meals are cooked in line with their wishes, and collaborate with residents to create menus. Residents enjoy themed dinner days, and homemade cakes are welcome back on the menu. There is flexibility on start and finish times as outlined.

Work in conjunction with the service’s scheme manager to provide nutritious meals, cater to individual dietary requirements and preferences, and uphold high standards of health, safety and cleanliness.

The cook will be responsible for maintaining meal quality and safety, including food hygiene and COSHH considerations, and may be required to use a computer for online training or to place online food orders.

Consultation and Teamwork

Demonstrate good communication skills, work as part of a team, and uphold the rights, privacy and dignity of people with disabilities.

Qualifications and Experience

Previous experience in a cooking or catering role is required. Knowledge of Health and Safety and COSHH regulations, and a food hygiene certificate (or willingness to work towards one) are essential. Previous care home/healthcare experience is desirable.

Must be able to demonstrate computer literacy for online training or ordering where applicable.

Benefits and Conditions

In return, a competitive benefits package is offered, including a cash health plan, 31 days holiday (including bank holidays), an additional Birthday leave day, and a competitive pension scheme. Note: there is a requirement to work on bank holidays.

Please note the closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 14th September, with interviews scheduled for 18th September. We may close the role early if a suitable applicant is selected.

Rewards & Benefits

We offer a range of benefits including an excellent pension scheme, healthcare cash plan, Cyclescheme and season ticket loans. Generous holiday and paid leave allowances, induction program, and ongoing training and development opportunities.

Values and Safeguarding

Estuary has a value-based recruitment policy aligned with Respect, One Estuary, Accountable and Responsible. Estuary is committed to safeguarding and safer recruitment standards and expects staff to share the commitment to safeguarding children and people with care and support needs.

The successful applicants will be asked to provide proof of eligibility to work in the UK. Applications from candidates requiring visa/work permit sponsorship are not accepted at this time; applications from eligible UK workers are welcome. If applicable, this post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
