Interim Head of People

Location: Flexible working - remote / Stirling office 1 day a month
Contract Length: 9 month fixed-term contract
Start date: Mid-February 2026
Salary: £49,108 - £52,720 per annum (pro rata)
Aspen People are delighted to be partnering with Aberlour Child Care Trust to recruit an Interim Head of People on a fixed-term basis to provide maternity leave cover.
The Head of People plays a vital leadership role, reporting to the Director of People and contributing to strategic HR delivery across Aberlour. The postholder will manage and support regionally based People Partners, lead key HR projects, and ensure a consistent, professional HR service aligned with organisational priorities.
This role works closely with managers, senior stakeholders and colleagues across HR and L&D, providing professional advice, coaching and guidance covering the full range of HR activities. The Head of People will ensure effective HR planning, support organisational development, and maintain compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Providing leadership and professional HR guidance to regional People Partners.
2. Contributing to the development, delivery and review of Aberlour’s strategic HRD plans.
3. Developing HR processes, policies and procedures that embed good practice and ensure compliance.
4. Ensuring effective regional HR plans, monitoring performance, and making adjustments when necessary.
5. Coaching and advising managers across all people management activities.
6. Managing specific HR projects and providing specialist HR advice to organisational and regional initiatives.
7. Monitoring HR activity and providing reporting to stakeholders, highlighting areas of concern and ensuring action is taken.
8. Making recommendations for organisational change to support effective service delivery and development.
The Candidate:
9. Experience developing and delivering HR strategy and advising senior managers on a broad range of HR issues.
10. Practical experience designing, developing and interpreting HR policies and procedures.
11. A track record in people management and project management from inception to completion.
12. Strong technical HR knowledge and a sound understanding of employment legislation.
13. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
14. Strategic thinking, business planning capability, and strong business acumen.
15. Proficient IT skills and a willingness to learn new technologies and systems.
Qualifications:
16. SCQF Level 10
17. Chartered Member of CIPD or equivalent knowledge
