Overview
We are seeking dedicated and detail-oriented Housekeeper/Cook to join our day nursery team at our Walsoken setting. The ideal candidates will play a vital role in maintaining cleanliness and order within our establishment, ensuring that all areas are welcoming and hygienic for both staff, children and parents. This position also involves meal preparation and kitchen duties, assisting with staff lunch cover and supporting children while eating. This vacancy is permanent and will be between the hours of 10am and 2.30pm, Monday to Friday up to a maximum of 16 hours. Additional hours may be offered to suitable person. Cooking duties will be undertaken Wednesdays and Fridays with cover required for holiday and sickness. Housekeeping duties will be undertaken on days when cooking is not required. This position is all year round we are not able to offer term time only. Candidates are subject to DBS checks and suitable references are required to ensure safe guarding practices within our nursery.
Responsibilities
* Perform thorough cleaning of rooms and areas within the setting and facilities to ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained.
* Meal preparation in the kitchen, including food safety practices and proper food handling techniques.
* Cook and prepare meals as needed, ensuring all culinary tasks are completed efficiently.
* Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen area, including washing dishes and sanitising surfaces.
* Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and food stock and report any shortages to management.
* Adhere to health and safety regulations, particularly regarding food safety and hygiene standards.
* Assist in covering staff during lunch periods and supporting children while eating adhering to guidelines and setting requirements if required.
* Ability to work on own initiative and have good organisational skills to sort and tidy equipment as required.
Qualifications
* Previous experience in a housekeeping role is preferred but not essential; training will be provided.
* Knowledge of food safety practices is advantageous.
* Experience in working within timelines and being flexible to meet the demands of the setting to assist staff cover during lunch period.
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions accurately.
* Excellent time management skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
* A positive attitude and willingness to assist others as needed.
* Knowledge and understanding of early years would be an advantage however training will be provided and ongoing support offered.
