Are you passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs? We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Learning Mentor to join a supportive Alternative Provision setting in Hartlepool.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of pupils who require additional support to engage with education and develop positive behaviours.
Location: Hartlepool
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Temporary (until July 2026)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay Rate: £ – £ per hour (depending on experience)
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
2. Build positive, trusting relationships with students to promote engagement and wellbeing
3. Support behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
4. Assist in delivering tailored learning activities
5. Encourage social skills, emotional regulation, and resilience
6. Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals
Requirements:
7. Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or additional needs
8. Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
9. Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
10. Ability to build rapport and act as a positive role model
11. Relevant qualifications ( Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, or similar) are desirable but not essential
