About Us:

At the heart of our club is “The Relentless Obsession”—an unwavering passion which fuels our pursuit of success, inspires our players, and ignites the spirit of our supporters. We embrace every challenge with determination, striving to play the beautiful game with flair and tenacity.
At SAFC, we believe in the power of football to unite and inspire. Our commitment extends beyond the pitch as we strive to make a positive impact through various community initiatives, empowering individuals and celebrating diversity.
Join us on our journey as we continue to build on our legacy, fuelled by “The Relentless Obsession” for greatness.

About the Team:
Our Coaching Team are passionate about developing talent at all levels, from our youngest Academy members to the first team. Our holistic coaching philosophy emphasises technical skills, tactical awareness, mental resilience, and sportsmanship.
We prioritise open communication with players and their families, providing regular updates on training progress and development opportunities. Join us in elevating the standard of coaching at Sunderland AFC, where every player is encouraged to grow, excel, and love the game!

The Opportunity:
The role involves building strong and supportive relationships with all coaches. Working alongside the Head of Coaching (HOC), you will meet with each coach to collaboratively agree on focus areas to work on throughout the season. You will then create action plans tailored to support each coach according to their individual needs. In collaboration with the HOC and Cell Leads, you will help design a learning and development programme focused on CPD activities that address relevant topics.
You will plan and deliver training sessions in partnership with the Lead coaches, ensuring that every player has the best opportunity to learn and develop within the programme. Additionally, you will support coaches by independently sourcing and reviewing video clips of individual players in relation to their specific learning objectives.
Providing regular health checks and updates on coach progress with the HOC during the 9/18/27/36/45-week intervals is a key responsibility. You will also provide impactful feedback to players to help support their progression. Liaising with parents to foster a collaborative approach will be important, as well as recognising potential complaint situations and taking effective steps to either avoid or resolve them.

About The Candidate

What we ask for:

The role involves assisting with coaching across the Academy programme as needed, including both training and fixtures. You will maintain consistent, up-to-date communication with the Academy Manager and Head of Coaching regarding the progress of both coaches and players. Aligning the coaches and the coaching programme with the club’s coaching and playing philosophy is an essential part of the role.
You will collaborate with coaching staff on training support and team selections, ensuring the development of each player is prioritised during training and fixtures. A key responsibility is to take the lead on the development programme for “High Potential Players,” as identified through the player pathway audit process.
In addition, you will support coaches in all aspects of their role, including coaching delivery, to promote best practices. Monitoring and evaluating all players in the Academy for succession planning will also be important. You will aim to create a best-in-class environment and actively participate in all relevant meetings.
Identifying areas for development and working closely with the Academy Senior Management Team and Multi-Disciplinary teams to ensure performance standards are met and developed is another key responsibility, and attending all relevant meetings is essential.
