Overview
This role is based in the UK and will be working on site in our UK based College.
In order to comply with mandatory pre-employment checks, the successful candidate will be required to provide original identification documents in person to our UK based People Services Department.
This role is pro rata. The salary is £10,761.97 - £11,488.04 per annum. For roles that start part way through the academic year, the annual salary will be pro rata to the remaining months.
This role is classed as working within Regulated Activity. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. By applying, you agree to an Enhanced DBS check in line with DBS regulations. An Enhanced DBS check is required as you will be working within Regulated Activity at the College.

Background to the Post
The role of the Specialist Learning Mentor – Mental Health is to provide individual, personal support for a named student on a one-to-one basis. This could be within a mentoring session that will support and enable the student to access the curriculum, for example, wellbeing check-ins, discussions about college concerns, and development of strategies to manage access to their curriculum.
The main purpose is to support the named student within their learning programme and help them towards being an independent learner. The student’s needs will have been identified in an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or through a referral from the Specialist Support Lead – Mental Health. The majority of time will be spent with the identified student in a 1-1 mentoring situation. This could be Face-to-Face, via Google Meet, email or phone, with occasional in-class support.
There will be a requirement to undertake administrative tasks, for example, recording student progress and supporting retention and achievement. This post reports directly to the Specialist Support Lead – Mental Health.
Duties and Responsibilities
* To provide mentoring support outside the classroom (occasionally in-class) for named students, as directed by the Specialist Support Lead – Mental Health. This could be via Google Meet, phone call or in a 1-1 situation.
* To inform, support and share information with the relevant PLA/class lecturer/SEN Team. For example, writing an Inclusion Report with suggested strategies and updating internal systems such as Pro Monitor.
* To actively promote and support independent learning.
* To support the Specialist Support Lead – Mental Health to develop, deliver and promote cross-college staff training.
* To update Inclusion Reports, Pro-Monitor and contribute to student EHCP Annual Reviews and targets.
* To work closely with the academic tutor, Personal Learning Adviser and Specialist Support Lead – Mental Health to ensure targets are monitored and reviewed.
* To inform and maintain regular communication concerning student progress with the identified student’s curriculum area, including personal tutor and Personal Learning Adviser.
* With knowledge and permission from the personal tutor or Personal Learning Adviser or Specialist Support Lead – Mental Health, to contact parents by telephone or in writing where appropriate.
* To act as a troubleshooter and help students meet deadlines and catch up on missed work.
* To attend Academy and Inclusion Team meetings as necessary.
* To undertake training and development as required, which may include Team-teach.
* To undertake administrative duties including keeping student records, completing My Concerns, and updating tutors with student progress.
* To develop resources for use with students and disseminate to staff throughout the College.
* Work collaboratively with College staff to produce Individual Risk Assessments, Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans and Medical Protocols.
* To attend and actively take part in team meetings and contribute to student reports and reviews.
* To support referrals to student counsellors or external agencies and planning mental health events throughout the year.
* To attend college-delivered ‘Teaching Essentials’ training.

Essential Attainments
* A qualification relevant to Mental Health at Level 2 minimum.
* GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics or Level 2 Equivalent qualification.
* Previous experience of supporting young people with Mental Health Issues.
* Good IT skills.
Desirable Attainments
* Previous experience of working in Further Education.
* Previous experience of supporting students with Mental Health.
* A qualification in SEN and/or ASC.
