Purpose of the Post
The Café Cook will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Brick Bank Café kitchen, preparing delicious meals and snacks using locally sourced ingredients. The role also involves supporting the café's unique creative environment, where customers are encouraged to build and interact with LEGO.
This is a brand-new, exciting opportunity to shape the culinary offering of a café that blends food, creativity, and community engagement.
Specific Duties
* Prepare and cook a variety of meals and snacks for café customers, ensuring consistent quality and presentation.
* Develop and plan innovative menus featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
* Monitor stock levels and place orders to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen.
* Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in all food preparation areas.
* Operate the kitchen in compliance with food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
* Support front-of-house staff with food service during busy periods.
* Assist in the design and execution of special food-themed events and workshops.
Specific Responsibilities
* Foster a friendly, inclusive atmosphere where creativity and customer engagement are encouraged.
* Collaborate with the Café Manager and Social Enterprise Coordinator to ensure the café delivers a high standard of food and service.
* Train and mentor staff or volunteers in kitchen tasks and food hygiene practices.
* Adapt menus to suit different dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, and allergen-free options.
* Promote sustainability by minimising food waste and supporting eco-conscious practices.
* Help shape the café's identity and culinary experience as part of the launch and beyond.
* Report maintenance or operational issues promptly to ensure safe and efficient kitchen performance.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Experience working in a kitchen or café environment.
* Strong knowledge of food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
* Passion for locally sourced, high-quality food.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Good communication and organisational skills.
* Enthusiastic attitude towards creating a fun and engaging customer experience.
Desirable:
* Food hygiene certification (or willingness to obtain one).
* Experience in menu development or working with local food suppliers.
* Interest in creative or play-based environments, such as LEGO, gaming, or maker spaces.
* Experience supporting community or social enterprise projects.
