Role Overview
Astute's Power Team are recruiting for a Site Manager (Solar) to join the Principal Contract on the delivery of a new build 20MW Solar farm based in Caerphilly, Wales.
Day rate: £500.00 to £550.00 per day outside IR35.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate logistics with Project Manager and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
* Conduct pre‑construction site assessments and manage site setup, including temporary facilities, access roads, and laydown areas.
* Lead and manage on‑site subcontractor teams ensuring efficient workflows for timely completion.
* Supervise all construction activities, including delivery logistics and materials distribution, groundworks, civil works, structure installation, module mounting, electrical and earthing works, commissioning, and site reinstatement.
* Collaborate with Principal Designer on development of the Risk Register during pre‑construction and ensure a smooth handover when construction starts.
* Act as Principal Contractor and ensure all construction activities comply with UK health, safety and environmental regulations, including CDM regulations.
* Implement and enforce health and safety plans, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS).
* Promote a culture of safety and conduct regular toolbox talks focused on daily planned activities and associated risks, site inspections, and incident reporting.
* Ensure that all work is executed to high standards and in line with Employer Requirements and industry best practices.
* Provide regular updates to the Project Manager, including progress reports, cost tracking, and risk assessments.
* Monitor project progress, identify and address potential time and cost overruns.
* Optimise resource allocation, including manpower, materials, and equipment, to maximise efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience
* Proven track record in managing large‑scale solar farm projects, ideally 20MW+.
* Experience in UK construction practices, regulations and standards, including CDM compliance.
* Relevant certifications in health and safety (e.g., SMSTS, NEBOSH, IOSH).
* Desired but not compulsory: Relevant certifications in construction management (e.g., Black Manager's CSCS Card, Gold Supervisor's CSCS Card).
