Job Description: Theatre Nurse (Band 6) - Maternity
As a member of the maternity theatre team, you must be able to perform the tasks of theatre scrub and recovery nurse, supporting the surgeon and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities include:
1. Acting as a team leader to a designated group of staff, monitoring and documenting their clinical skills development.
2. Scrubbing independently and contributing to the smooth running of theatre lists.
3. Recovering women in the recovery area as a Band 6 nurse.
4. Establishing, leading, and maintaining high standards of pre/perioperative and postoperative care.
5. Undertaking obstetric recovery training within 3 months if lacking recovery experience (1-week refresher training for those with prior experience).
6. Ensuring the safe use of complex theatre equipment, reporting faults, and managing stock and equipment maintenance.
7. Supporting your own professional development and acting as a patient advocate, applying holistic, socio-economic, and cultural care principles.
8. Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care programs based on evidence-based practice.
9. Maintaining accurate midwifery and nursing documentation, including electronic records, and participating in clinical audits.
10. Championing current developments in theatre practice and NHS standards.
11. Supporting a safe, clean, and psychologically supportive environment.
12. Identifying clinical risks and escalating concerns appropriately.
13. Working collaboratively with support staff to meet care and treatment needs.
14. Providing information and support to other departments as needed, in consultation with the multidisciplinary team.
