We are looking for a suitably qualified person to join our team as HR Officer to promote good HR practice throughout the District and its constituent churches and Circuits. The HR Officer will provide expert advice for line managers and support all HR matters, enabling lay staff to flourish and meet statutory and Methodist requirements. The role involves working closely with the District Secretary and the District Lay Employment Committee to develop and implement policies across the District.
Responsibilities include:
1. Recruitment and Induction
* Support employing bodies with job descriptions, adverts, contracts, and interview processes.
* Assist with Safer Recruitment procedures.
* Engage with employers to ensure training, probation, and procedures are followed for new staff and line managers.
1. Advice and Guidance
* Provide consistent employment advice to churches, Circuits, and the District on recruitment, induction, discipline, grievances, and redundancy.
* Handle queries from employees regarding contracts and HR issues.
* Prepare and process paperwork for employment status changes, ensuring compliance with immigration and Methodist policies.
* Identify HR training needs within the District and communicate these to relevant parties.
* Develop and deliver training for line managers in collaboration with the District Lay Employment Committee.
2. Administration
* Maintain employment records for employers.
* Obtain prior approval for contracts, recruitment, and redundancies from the District Policy Committee.
* Coordinate with District Administrators to keep records of lay employees and line managers.
3. Policy and Oversight
* Support the District Lay Employment Advisor in their duties as per Methodist practices.
* Process HR documentation and prepare reports on grievances, performance reviews, and employment contracts.
* Ensure that HR information remains current, relevant, and compliant with regulations.
* Assist the District Secretary in monitoring and developing employment policies.
* Develop awareness of Methodist Safeguarding practices and undergo relevant training.
