We are currently recruiting a Senior Site Manager who is local to Ilkeston (Derbyshire) for our client in Barnsley. The company is a construction main contractor that offers a full construction service from inception to completion for Blue Chip clients within the Retail, Student Accommodation, Healthcare, Leisure, Industrial and Commercial Sectors. They work with clients such as Pure Gym, M&S, the NHS, John Lewis, etc. They handle refurbishments, interior fit‑outs and new‑build projects ranging from £0.5 million to £8 million in value. They are seeking an experienced Site Manager to join the team as No1 on site. Existing projects are in Ilkeston, with many follow‑on projects in the same location, primarily new‑build industrial and commercial units between £2‑5 million in value. The Site Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day running of construction sites.
Main responsibilities
* Coordinating and clearly directing both directly employed site staff and contractors.
* Planning and programming all site activities and coordinating labour.
* Working closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure work is progressing according to the programme with effective cost control.
* Promptly dealing with any issues and planning corrective actions.
* Providing regular updates, attending and leading progress meetings and subcontractor meetings.
* Maintaining the Group's high quality and safety standards, working closely with our in‑house Health, Safety and Environmental Team.
Requirements
* Previous site/project management experience is essential.
* Previous experience working for main contractors on new‑build projects.
* You must be able to plan all aspects of construction operations and produce construction programmes. Comprehensive knowledge of construction processes and strong commercial awareness are required.
* Strong interpersonal, leadership and people management skills are essential. You must be friendly and professional at all times when directly dealing with colleagues, contractors, clients, professionals and all others within the supply chain.
* An academic qualification (HNC, HND, Degree in a construction‑related subject) would be an advantage.
* We ideally seek a candidate with in‑date qualifications and training such as SMSTS, First Aid, Black Managers CSCS card, asbestos awareness, working at height, scaffold inspection.
