Salary: £90 - £95 per day / 6.5 hours.
About the Role
Axcis Education is seeking a Learning Mentor to join a supportive alternative provision in Exeter. This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday with secondary-aged students who have a range of additional needs, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, anxiety, and behaviour that challenges. The successful candidate will support small class groups of 5–10 pupils, assisting the class teacher in delivering lessons that follow the national curriculum. The role focuses on building trusting relationships with students, promoting positive behaviour, and supporting emotional and social development through empathy, consistency, and effective de‑escalation techniques. The provision offers a varied and engaging timetable with creative subjects, two days per week dedicated to P.E., and regular school trips designed to encourage confidence, teamwork, and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible lessons.
* Build positive and trusting relationships with students to promote emotional wellbeing and self‑confidence.
* Use de‑escalation techniques to manage behaviour and support emotional regulation.
* Encourage teamwork, communication, and resilience in pupils.
* Supervise and participate in creative and physical education sessions, as well as school trips and enrichment activities.
* Support outreach sessions and off‑site activities as required.
Requirements
* Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or behavioural needs.
* A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting challenging behaviour.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
* Willingness to obtain business car insurance (if successful) as the role may involve transporting or accompanying students on outreach activities.
* Full‑time availability, Monday to Friday.
