Job Purpose: As a Data Platform Developer, you’ll be the architect behind our enterprise-wide data ecosystem—designing, building, and maintaining a platform that powers trusted analytics and drives digital transformation. You’ll oversee the architecture, governance, and performance of the platform, ensuring data is structured, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards outlined in the DASOM framework. This role is about more than technology—it’s about enabling a scalable, governed, and future-ready data environment. You’ll manage the technology stack, champion self-service solutions, monitor data quality, and collaborate with data stewards to ensure issues are swiftly remediated. This role can be based in either our Glasgow or Grangemouth offices, with a minimum on-site presence of two days per week. Key Responsibility Areas: Data Platform Design & Architecture • Design and implement enterprise data architecture, including Lakehouse and integration pipelines. • Define and maintain data models, schemas, and metadata standards. • Ensure scalability, performance, and security are built into every layer of the platform. Platform Management & Operations • Own and manage the data platform technology stack. • Oversee platform performance, availability, and cost optimisation. • Implement monitoring and alerting for pipelines and platform health. • Continuously optimise compute, storage, and query performance to balance speed and cost. • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in data management. Data Governance & Quality • Partner with Data Stewards to enforce governance standards across the platform. • Monitor data quality and coordinate remediation actions. • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR). Measures of Success in the delivered across the organisation next 12 months: • Enterprise data platform designed, operational, and enabling analytics at scale. • Scalable Lakehouse architecture and integration pipelines fully implemented. • Self-service data solutions adopted widely across the business. • Platform performance optimised across compute, storage, and query speed. • Governance standards enforced and data quality issues actively resolved Technical Expertise Required: • Proven experience in data platform engineering or architecture roles. • Expertise in cloud-based platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP). • Proficiency in SQL, R, or Python. • Awareness of data privacy and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR). • Working knowledge of governance frameworks and best practices for data quality. Preferred: • Familiarity with ERP systems and integration tools. • Experience in FMCG or similar industries. • Knowledge of Microsoft data technologies (Azure, Fabric). • Understanding of data modelling and data warehousing.
