Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and nurturing House Cook to join our residential child care team. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for supporting children's well-being through nutritious food and a caring presence. This role is central to creating a warm, homely environment where every child feels valued and cared for.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and cook nutritious meals for children and staff, adhering to food safety and hygiene standards at all times.
* Plan balanced menus that cater to a variety of dietary requirements, allergies, and cultural preferences, in consultation with care staff and children where appropriate.
* Maintain a clean, organised kitchen, ensuring all food is stored safely and all equipment is kept in good working order.
* Manage the food budget efficiently, sourcing ingredients responsibly and ensuring all meals are provided within allocated resources.
* Support children's independence by involving them in age-appropriate kitchen tasks and promoting healthy eating habits.
* Work collaboratively with care staff to ensure meal times are positive, social experiences for all children.
* Maintain accurate records of food safety checks, temperature logs, and allergen information in line with regulatory requirements.
* Participate in safeguarding training and uphold the highest standards of child protection and confidentiality at all times.
Experience & Qualifications
* Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate (required).
* Previous experience in a kitchen, care, or school environment is highly desirable.
* Strong understanding of food safety, nutrition, and allergy management.
* Experience working with children or young people is an asset.
* Ability to work flexibly, adapt to changing needs, and remain calm under pressure.
