Mid/Senior Developer – Readiculous Product Team (EU-Based) Copenhagen Our vision Mrs Wordsmith’s vision is of a world in which kids laugh out loud as they learn. Our mission is to transform the way kids learn through the combination of humour, illustration, animation and gaming. We are the world’s silliest learning company. We’re all about literacy that works for kids, parents, and educators. Our curriculum-aligned products make learning to read, and reading to learn, fun and effective. The company started out life with a critical insight: that kids learn more, learn faster, and have more fun learning if the materials themselves are playful. This insight was initially manifested through a series of critically acclaimed print products that quickly became Amazon bestsellers in their category and through their own e-commerce site The company has moved on to develop mobile games and has big goals for its central word IP, called the WordEngine. Staffed by a creative mix of artists, writers, curriculum specialists, data scientists and game designers, and with locations in London, Copenhagen and Mexico City, the company is poised for the next level - with your help. This role is ideal for a developer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is eager to contribute to a mission-driven product at the intersection of education and play. You will be hands-on further developing and maintaining the Unity version of Readiculous whilst also contributing to building a modern, scalable web experience (Javascript-based), optimized for schools and classrooms. Translate product requirements, wireframes, and user stories into performant, maintainable code. Collaborate with the Tech Lead and senior developers to implement architectural decisions that support scalability and code quality. Deliver high-quality features on schedule, with attention to performance, accessibility, and cross-device compatibility. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with the Tech Lead and rest of development team, Product Manager, and UI/UX team to ensure alignment between design vision and technical implementation. Coordinate with remote developers (Titan team in Mexico) for shared development tasks, code reviews, and sprint planning. Support clear documentation and team communication to ensure smooth handoffs across locations and time zones. Quality & Best Practices Contribute to code reviews, unit testing, and continuous integration processes to maintain a high standard of quality. Advocate for clean code, refactoring opportunities, and engineering excellence. Help define and uphold coding standards and development conventions for the team. Growth & Mentorship Stay up to date with evolving relevant development technologies and their applications and share insights and best practices with the team. Mentor junior developers and contribute to a culture of curiosity and learning. About you: 3-5 years of hands-on development experience building modern web applications in Unity and Javascript/Typescript. Strong proficiency with frameworks like React (frontend) and Node.js (backend), ideally within a service-oriented architecture. Experience working in cross-functional product teams alongside product managers, designers, and other developers. Strong understanding of version control, CI/CD workflows, performance optimization, and responsive design. Ability to work independently while staying aligned with broader architectural and product goals. Comfortable navigating complexity and ambiguity during early discovery and prototyping phases. Prior experience with educational platforms, games, or mission-driven digital products is a plus. Based in or near Copenhagen (or another EU city with strong timezone overlap). We value effective teamwork, collaboration, and autonomy - fundamentally we know the best people to make the decisions are those closest to the problem and we encourage this across the company. We value creativity, endless curiosity and encourage our teams to respectfully challenge the work and each other for a better output. Above all we value diversity - in whatever form that may manifest - our creative output is stronger for it.
