Job Title: Sr Data Architect
Location: Northampton, UK
Job Type: Contract - Hybrid
Minimum 8+ years of experience working as a Data Architect for an AWS Cloud Data Warehouse.
Responsibilities
* Understand data requirements and perform authoritative data source assessment to capture business and technical data needs.
* Create and maintain architecture artifacts:
o Data Flow Diagrams (DFD) and logical/physical data models for end-to-end lineage.
o Data dictionary defining entities, attributes, naming conventions, encryption/tokenisation requirements and traceability for compliance.
o Data mapping sheets documenting source‑to‑target mappings, lineage and transformation logic for all critical flows.
o Data Privacy Impact Assessment (DPIA) for sensitive data projects.
o Update architecture vision and security components to ensure alignment with AVD (Architecture Vision Delta) and security design decisions.
* Design and implement data solutions:
o Design and build scalable pipelines (batch and real‑time) using cloud‑native tools/frameworks such as DIHOP, DIHOC, AWS Glue, DBT, Snowflake and Databricks.
o Apply architectural patterns for data lakes, streaming and batch processing.
o Exposure to cloud technologies such as Snowflake, Redshift, Apache Flink and Apache Kafka.
o Conduct technical POCs and assessments of cloud data technologies to support fraud business and technical requirements.
* Ensure compliance with data standards:
o Apply Barclays Data Architecture Capability Directives and DACM patterns for governance and quality.
* Integrate security and privacy controls:
o Implement tokenisation, masking and encryption for PII/PCI data across ingestion and storage layers.
* Governance and approvals:
o Liaise with Lead Architects Guild and Control Tribes to present artifacts for review and sign‑off in forums such as TAC, EDP ARB and Fraud Design Authority.
o Secure mandatory approvals including CAF1 (Non‑Prod), CAF2 (Prod), CARA, DPIA and DARB for architecture compliance.
* Collaboration and lifecycle support:
o Work with Solution Architects and Engineering Teams to assist in solution design, low‑level design and component build.
o Support SIT, OAT and E2E testing phases for data integrity and performance.
o Ensure smooth deployment and operational readiness for production environments (Service Transition & RTB handover).
* Continuous improvement and standards:
o Define and enhance standards, contributing to data dictionary and mapping standards and aide‑memoires for consistency.
o Participate in architecture working groups to drive adoption of reusable patterns, accelerators and compliance frameworks.
o Collaborate closely with CTO, CDO and other Solution Architects to deliver fraud solutions at the highest standards.
o Responsible for designing, sustaining and enhancing fraud data architecture and for hands‑on design and implementation of integrated fraud‑based data solutions that are scalable, built for rapid change and meet functional and non‑functional requirements.
Qualifications
* Minimum 8+ years of experience as a Data Architect specialising in AWS Cloud data warehouses.
* Proficient with AWS Glue, DBT, Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, Apache Flink and Apache Kafka.
* Strong knowledge of data modelling, data flow diagrams, data dictionary, data mapping, DPIA and security governance.
* Experience applying Barclays Data Architecture Capability Directives or equivalent governance frameworks.
* Hands‑on experience with tokenisation, masking and encryption for PII/PCI data.
* Demonstrated ability to conduct technical POCs and to secure necessary architectural approvals.
* Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams in a hybrid, contract‑based environment.
