We’re looking for a Let Estate Building Surveyor for London and Surrey.
What It’s Like to Work Here
You'll be part of a thriving and busy team that manages a wide range of residential, commercial, and agricultural properties, as well as holiday cottages, across some of the National Trust’s finest estates. Your primary contractual location will be Polesden Lacey Estate Office, with an expectation to attend the office. 40–60% of your working week will be spent at various National Trust sites, with the remainder split between office and home work under our hybrid working policy.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, coordinate and supervise improvement and maintenance works across the Let Estate portfolio, ensuring high quality and compliance with conservation and building regulations.
* Produce work schedules, obtain quotes from contractors, and liaise with tenants to coordinate tasks.
* Manage financial responsibility for projects, delivering agreed programs within budget.
* Act as project manager, lead consultant or commercial client on small to medium projects when required.
* Address conservation issues on historic and listed buildings, conducting surveys, preparing plans, and overseeing works to completion.
* Maintain flexibility and adaptability to handle the unpredictable nature of daily tasks.
* Ensure risk assessments are performed and all work complies with legislation and National Trust policies.
Required Qualifications and Experience
* Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or Chartered Institute of Buildings (CIOB).
* Experience undertaking surveys, diagnosing building defects, and specifying remedial work for traditional buildings following best practice.
* Skill in producing work schedules and obtaining contractor quotes.
* Competent in contract and contract administration.
* Demonstrated financial responsibility for projects and cyclical work with strong data management and project delivery within budget.
* Proven ability to engage contractors, manage works to completion, and ensure risk assessments and compliance.
* Excellent time management, organisational, and communication skills.
* Confidence in building and maintaining positive relationships with tenants.
