School Caretaker
Location: King’s LynnJob Type: Full-time, temporary (3–4 weeks, with possible extension)Hourly Rate: £14.24 – £15.50Working Hours: 10:00am – 6:00pm or 11:00am – 7:00pm
Join the dedicated team at a special needs school, part of a respected educational trust. We are seeking a School Caretaker to maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment for our students, who have special educational needs and may exhibit challenging behaviours. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of our school facilities.
Day-to-day of the role:
* General Maintenance and Cleaning:
o Perform porterage duties, such as moving furniture and equipment.
o Maintain school premises, furniture, and fittings, reporting any issues to the Headteacher.
o Handle small repairs and DIY projects, and coordinate larger repairs by obtaining quotes from contractors.
o Manage daily cleaning tasks, respond to emergency cleaning needs, and organise annual deep cleans of various school areas.
* Security:
o Serve as the main key holder and manage the security of the school premises.
o Conduct regular checks and maintenance of security systems including CCTV and alarms.
o Ensure all windows, doors, and gates are secured, and that all appliances are turned off after hours.
* Health and Safety:
o Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.
o Conduct regular checks and maintain records of health and safety assessments.
o Provide safe access to the school during adverse weather conditions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Proven experience in a caretaking or similar role, preferably within a special educational needs setting.
* Strong understanding of health and safety regulations.
* Ability to perform physical tasks and handle maintenance equipment.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills.
* DBS clearance is essential.
