Role: Data Architect – Finance Transformation
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid)
Contract: 6-Months

About the Role
Chapman Tate Associates is recruiting for a Data Architect to be part of an exciting data transformation journey, where you will be instrumental in shaping the foundations.
This is a hands-on, technically driven role where you’ll design and deliver a modern, scalable, and secure Azure-based data platform. Your work will power data-driven decision-making across the business and lay the groundwork for our clients shift from manual, Excel-led reporting to a self-service analytics culture.
If you’re passionate about cloud architecture, governance, and enabling business intelligence at scale — this is your opportunity to make a real impact.
What You’ll Do
As a Data Architect, you’ll be the technical owner of the new data platform, responsible for designing and implementing the architecture that will become the organisation’s single source of truth. You’ll:
* Design and build the enterprise data lake using Azure Data Lake Gen2 with a Bronze/Silver/Gold layer model.
* Develop robust ETL/ELT pipelines in Azure Data Factory to integrate data from key systems (AS400, Tagetik, CRM, Esker, Slimstock).
* Shape the near-term batch data integration strategy and prepare for a future API-driven environment.
* Define and implement data governance and security frameworks, ensuring data quality, lineage, and controlled access.
* Lead the migration from legacy tools (Domo, Vecta) to a Power BI-based reporting ecosystem.
* Optimise platform performance, maintain technical documentation, and embed best practices across the data environment.
Experience required
You’ll be someone who thrives in designing and building cloud-based data ecosystems from the ground up. You’ll bring:
* Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure Data Lake Gen2, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Active Directory.
* Expert-level SQL and data modelling skills (conceptual, logical, physical).
* Proven ability to build scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and implement strong data governance and security controls.
* Experience with batch and real-time integrations, ODBC connectors, and REST APIs.
* Exposure to Databricks or Microsoft Fabric (desirable).
* A track record of working in complex ERP environments and supporting digital or data transformation programmes.
Our client is investing heavily in technology and committed to transformation. This is your chance to shape the data strategy from the ground up, work with cutting-edge Azure tools, and see your architecture directly enable smarter, faster decision-making across the business.
