Role Summary
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Site Manager (SMSTS qualified) to join our Habitats Department.
This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone with an ecological contracting background and does not mind getting their hands dirty. The ability to operate machinery is desirable. You will be responsible for overseeing habitat creation and restoration projects, supervising and working with teams, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee and deliver habitat creation and restoration projects across the UK.
* Supervise operatives and subcontractors to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient project delivery.
* Construct and maintain habitat features such as rivers, ponds, hibernacula, wildlife corridors, and pollinator banks.
* Prepare sites for works
* Provide aftercare to ensure vegetation and habitats establish successfully.
* Operate tools and plant machinery safely and effectively (training provided where required).
* Support office-based tasks including quoting, tendering, and producing project documentation.
* Liaise with ecologists, project managers, landowners, and clients (when required).
* Promote and enforce Health & Safety best practices at all times.
* Work flexibly across the UK, often in remote or challenging environments, with occasional overnight stays.
About You
* SMSTS Qualified (essential)
* CSCS card (essential)
* First Aider (essential)
* Full UK driving licence (essential)
* Experience in ecological restoration, habitat creation, and environmental project management
* Knowledge of wetland and river site management, peatland revitalization, and biodiversity enhancement
* Strong understanding of environmental regulations and ecological mitigation practices
* Project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation
* Excellent leadership, communication, and team coordination skills
* Ability to operate plant or machinery (desirable).
* Comfortable with UK-wide travel and staying away from home during the working week.
* Relevant certifications and understanding of health and safety regulations
* Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field (desirable)
What We Offer
Competitive salary of £38,000 – £42,000 (dependent on experience).
