Senior HR Officer – Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service
Location: Tyne and Wear, SR5 3QY
Contract: Full-time | 3–6 Month Contract
Hours: 37 per week (working pattern to be discussed at interview)
Pay: £20+ per hour
We are looking to recruit an experienced Senior HR Officer to join the People & Culture team. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a high-profile Job Evaluation Project, ensuring fairness, compliance, and consistency across the organisation.
You will play a key role in delivering a high-quality job evaluation service for Green Book roles, using the Gauge+ scheme. Your expertise will be central to meeting legal obligations, upholding contractual terms, and supporting the Service’s commitment to equal pay.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of the Job Evaluation Project.

Provide expert advice on job evaluation methodologies and HR best practice.

Build strong working relationships with managers, colleagues, and trade union representatives.

Manage the full project lifecycle, from documentation to final delivery.
*
Ensure compliance with employment legislation and HR policies.
*
Manage and support a People Advisor and People Coordinator.
About You
*
CIPD Level 5 (or higher) or equivalent relevant experience.
*
Proven experience with job evaluation schemes, ideally in the public sector or emergency services.
*
Strong background in providing professional HR advice in a People Partner or similar role.
*
Excellent knowledge of equal pay principles and employment law.
*
Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
*
High attention to detail, with the ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
*
Proficient in HR Information Systems (HRIS) and Microsoft Office.
