Mental Health Support Worker / Learning Mentor – Wolverhampton

Support that makes a real difference starts here.

Are you:

1. Experienced in working with children or vulnerable adults?
2. From a social care background or personally familiar with special educational needs?
3. Looking for a role where your empathy and resilience truly matter?

If so, we’d love to hear from you.

Protocol Education is recruiting for a full-time Learning Mentor to join a pupil referral unit in Shropshire. You’ll be supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs—helping them to feel safe, supported, and ready to engage with learning.

This is a setting where relationships are everything. While classroom experience is welcome, it’s not essential. What matters most is a calm, confident approach and the ability to build trust.

The role:

4. Full-time (Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm)
5. Working with pupils on a one-to-one and small group basis
6. Providing emotional support and structure throughout the school day
7. Supporting behaviour regulation and promoting positive choices

You will need:

8. A strong, grounded presence and the ability to stay calm under pressure
9. A genuine interest in supporting children with SEMH needs
10. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude

This is a long-term role in a team that truly values consistency and care. Whether you come from youth work, social care, education, or a personal support background, your experience could be the difference-maker here.

If you're ready to make a lasting impact and want to explore this opportunity further, please apply today.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.

Full assistance provided. For details of our privacy policy, please see visit the Protocol Education website.
