Offer description

We lead the UK’s diplomatic, development and consular work around the world. We employ around 17,000 staff in our global network of 281 offices worldwide. Our UK-based staff work in King Charles Street in London, Abercrombie House in East Kilbride and in Milton Keynes. Your role with us The FCDO relies on the very latest tools and systems to help them deliver a positive global impact. Our Information and Digital Directorate provides the digital, data and technology services we need to achieve this ambition, and its Data Architecture Function defines the processes which govern what data is collected and presented for analysis and reporting. When you join us in this vital hands-on role you’ll work towards becoming an expert in one or more core FCDO data domains, and focus on understanding, cataloguing and modelling data, data flows, metadata and data interactions. Working with product delivery teams and technical architects to ensure that systems, solutions, reporting and data are correctly designed and offer assured patterns that can be reused across the FCDO, you’ll support the delivery of optimal data architecture design, principles, processes, standards and tools. With the opportunity to gain experience of data and technologies across our multi-cloud infrastructure, you’ll collaborate with professional data communities across our organisation and the UK government, and help the FCDO become a visible and positive contributor to data architecture. Who we’re looking for To be a success in this important role you should possess the proactive communication skills necessary to explain complex data concepts to a range of technical and non-technical audiences. With the confidence to consult, advise and influence as you work to ensure data products meet project objectives, align with standards and strategy, and are future-proof, you should also have substantial technical understanding of data modelling frameworks, tools and techniques. Capable of identifying and applying existing patterns effectively, and designing new models to address specific challenges, you’ll consider dependencies and impacts across business areas and data domains, and be skilled at designing models suitable for complex, multi-cloud environments. You should also possess the skills to define, develop and promote data standards, be a strong advocate for consistent design, and be ready to work with delivery teams to ensure our high quality standards are applied effectively. We encourage applications from all communities, so that we reflect the very best of 21 st century Britain. All FCDO staff are fully supported in the development of their skills and capabilities as well as benefits that help to make the most of life in and out of work, including a Civil Service pension. Use your talent and experience to shape our nation’s future, and deliver tangible improvements to millions of lives, including your own. Closing date: 16 September 2025.
