Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Architect with deep expertise in Azure data services to provide architectural leadership, assurance, and optimisation across several core business systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing, designing, and enhancing the data architecture underpinning the Scope BoE Database, WBS Management System, and Safetibase, all of which utilise Azure SQL and Azure Blob Storage.
This role requires a high level of technical capability, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with multifunctional delivery teams.
Key Objectives
The Data Architect will lead and deliver the following:
1. Architecture Review & Assessment
1. Review the current Azure SQL and overall data architecture across key systems.
2. Conduct a structured SQL database security assessment, including:Authentication and authorisation mechanismsEncryption at rest and in transitRole‑based access and least‑privilege designNetwork security, firewall configuration, and segmentationPrivileged access and identity management
2. Optimised Solution Design
3. Provide improved architectural designs that enhance:SecurityPerformanceScalabilityMaintainability
4. Recommend best‑practice patterns for Azure data services and cloud-native design.
3. Technical Leadership & Assurance
5. Support delivery teams with architectural guidance and decision-making.
6. Produce high‑quality technical documentation, diagrams, and standards.
7. Provide subject‑matter expertise across:Azure SQLAzure Blob StoragePower Apps.NET data integration patterns
Key Responsibilities
8. Lead the review and redesign of existing Azure SQL databases and integration components.
9. Define and document data models, integration patterns, and architectural blueprints.
10. Ensure solutions follow Azure governance, identity, and security best practices.
11. Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and governance teams.
12. Advise on performance tuning, cost optimisation, and operational resilience.
13. Provide assurance on the implementation of recommended architectures.
Required Skills & Experience
14. Advanced expertise in Azure SQL, including database design, performance tuning, query optimisation, and security.
15. Strong Experience with Azure Blob Storage, including configuration, access control, and security patterns.
16. Proven Experience designing and delivering data solutions for Power Apps and .NET applications.
17. Deep understanding of:Azure architecture and landing-zone principlesIdentity & Access Management (Azure AD / Entra ID)Monitoring and observability (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics)Azure governance, policies, and compliance standards
18. Ability to produce clear and comprehensive architectural documentation.
19. Excellent communication skills with Experience engaging technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Desirable Qualifications
20. Microsoft Azure certifications (, AZ-305, DP‑300, DP‑203)
21. Experience with CI/CD pipelines for data components
22. Understanding of data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical)
