Volunteer, unpaid: Hardware Developer.
As an IoT Hardware Engineer at BioBright, you will play a critical role in developing and improving our environmental monitoring systems. This fully‑remote position will require you to design, program, and advise on best practices for building reliable IoT hardware and software in challenging marine environments. You will guide our team and partners on assembling, deploying, and maintaining systems effectively, ensuring they perform reliably in real world conditions.
Core Responsibilities / Hardware
* Design & Advisory: Provide expert guidance on assembling and testing multi‑sensor monitoring devices, including advice on soldering, wiring, and building robust hardware prototypes.
* Software Development & Support: Develop and maintain embedded software/firmware for IoT devices.
* Remote Deployment Support: Prepare hardware documentation and instructions for field partners; provide online troubleshooting, configuration guidance, and remote technical support during deployments and maintenance.
Key Skills & Qualifications Required
* Experience with IoT, sensor integration, or embedded systems.
* Familiarity with GitHub, MongoDB, and cloud deployment platforms (e.g., Render).
* Ability to advise, troubleshoot, and problem‑solve remotely across hardware, software, and networking. Preferred experience with GIS, environmental data, or time‑series databases.
* Knowledge of network configuration and troubleshooting. Experience mentoring or providing technical advisory support to teams.
Time Commitment: Volunteer 10+ hours per week for 3‑5 months remotely.
