Overview

Passionate About Supporting Primary Pupils with SEMH. Position: Learning Mentor (Teaching Assistant) Location: Primary Schools – Salford & Greater Manchester Type: Full-Time Pay: Subject to experience and qualifications

Axcis Education is seeking dedicated and compassionate candidate to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). This would be a great opportunity for candidates that are experienced Teaching Assistants. You’ll play a vital role in supporting both academic and emotional development through a combination of 1:1 support, small group interventions, and in-class assistance. You’ll work closely with teachers, SENDCO and pastoral teams to help children feel safe, regulated and ready to learn.


Responsibilities

* Providing 1:1 support for pupils with EHCPs
* Leading or supporting small group interventions focused on emotional literacy, social skills, and behaviour
* Zones of Regulation interventions
* Emotional Coaching
* Nurture Groups intervention
* Social Stories intervention
* Applying the "PACE approach" (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy)
* Assisting in the creation and review of Individual Behaviour Support Plans (IBSPs)
* Using de-escalation techniques (e.g., Team Teach, PBS, or Proactive Approaches+)
* Encouraging positive peer interactions and building social communication skills
* Promoting emotional regulation and resilience through consistency and structured routines
* Contributing to the development and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
* Working collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals (e.g. Educational Psychologists, CAMHS)

We’re Looking for Candidates Who

* Have 2+ years’ experience supporting children with ASD, SEMH or challenging behaviour
* Hold a current Team Teach or equivalent de-escalation qualification (or be willing to train)
* Understand and apply trauma-informed strategies, including ACEs and emotional coaching
* Demonstrate a calm, patient and compassionate approach
* Can build strong, trusting relationships with children, staff and families
