About the Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Developer Associate to join our DDaT department to contribute to the configuration and development of our Records Management System. The Records Management System handles most of the policing functions undertaken at Staffordshire Police such as Crime, Intelligence, Property, Custody and Case Management. We’re working to extend the system to add more specialist functions.
Our Associate Developers support the wider business by investigating issues raised with the Records Management System, suggesting and implementing improvements to benefit users across all areas of the Force. Full configuration training will be provided and the areas you’ll affect include workflows, role-based access control, document templates and other configuration items. You’ll be joining an established team and making a positive impact on the way our people work and our business processes.
The work will involve some basic programming, but the emphasis is on configuration not development. You may have some previous experience with VBA, XML and SQL and a basic understanding of these skills will help you with the technical aspects of the role. Other work will be carried out within the application itself, and you’ll support many of our business change programmes. You’ll be using some of the more advanced features in Microsoft Word and Excel and will gain exposure to Office .
Business Analysis skills will be valued, we’ll help you build these as you’ll be exposed to Requirements Gathering, Problem Solving and Benefits Realisation activities. Any prior exposure you’ve had to Project Management or IT Service Management will also be of benefit. You’ll likely build a specialist in one or two business areas and become a key point of contact for our users. You’ll be working to support operational demands and “business as usual” work along with delivering change.
We’re looking for someone who’s comfortable communicating with officers and staff across the organisation, as well as external partners and suppliers. You’ll have the opportunity to attend conferences and user groups where you will raise issues pertinent to Staffordshire Police and understand developments in other Forces. We want you to be self-motivated, well organised and happy to work through priority pieces of work, sometimes with tight deadlines. You’ll be very much part of DDaT so it’s a great opportunity to build some IT experience for yourself as well as contributing to the modernisation of policing in Staffordshire to benefit the communities that we serve.
Further details of the key tasks, responsibilities can be found within the role profile. The specialism of the role is highlighted in the Matrix attached to the role profile.
