Job Title: Site Manager – BESS Project (Commissioning to Operations)
Location: Project Site Based
Role Overview: Our client are seeking an experienced Site Manager to oversee a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) site that has been constructed and partially commissioned.
The Site Manager will be responsible for managing the site from a CDM and Health & Safety perspective, coordinating contractor activities, and ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient progression through final commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
Site & CDM Management
* Act on behalf of the Principal Contractor to manage the site in accordance with CDM Regulations
* Ensure compliance with the Construction Phase Plan, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS)
* Monitor and enforce high standards of Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) performance across all site activities
* Maintain accurate site records, permits, inductions, and safety documentation
Contractor Coordination & Communication
* Maintain regular communication with all contractors active on site during commissioning
* Coordinate site activities to avoid clashes and ensure safe working interfaces
* Chair and document progress meetings, toolbox talks, and coordination meetings
* Act as the primary on-site point of contact for contractors and internal stakeholders
Commissioning Phase Support
* Support the safe execution of remaining commissioning activities in collaboration with the SAP
* Monitor commissioning progress against programme and escalate risks or delays as required
* Facilitate access, isolations, and work sequencing in coordination with authorised personnel
Site Presence & Monitoring
* Conduct regular site walkarounds and inspections
* Identify hazards, unsafe acts, and non-conformances, ensuring timely corrective actions
* Proactively promote a strong safety culture on site
Reporting & Handover
* Provide regular progress and H&S reports to the project team
* Support preparation for handover into Operations, ensuring site readiness
* Assist with snag management, documentation close-out, and operational readiness activities

Required Experience & Skills:
Essential
* Proven experience as a Site Manager or similar role on energy or infrastructure projects
* Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations and Principal Contractor duties
* Experience working on live electrical or commissioning environments
* Excellent contractor management and communication skills
* Strong understanding of H&S best practices and site compliance
* Ability to manage multiple contractors and activities concurrently
Desirable
* Experience on BESS, renewable energy, or power infrastructure projects
* Familiarity working alongside SAPs and within high-voltage environments
* SMSTS (or equivalent)
* IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH qualification
* First Aid at Work
